Could be translated as 'What is it about?' The little sister to Ik weet er alles van, hosted by Tijl Beckand who definitely feels like Ruben Nicolai's understudy at times. Whenever Ruben's unavailable, ahhh just get Tijl in there who cares.
The summer programming of RTL got expanded a notch in 2023 and 2024 and that meant there was more space to experiment with additional programming for a handful of weeks, 3 to be exact. The result? Eh, it sufficed. Here are the rules...
Round 1: 5 contestants buzz in when they see the answer to cryptic clues of images combined with a music piece. In week 1, pressing the buzzer gave other contestants ONE SECOND to follow in case the first presser made a mistake. This thankfully got changed for weeks 2 and 3, as now contestants are required to write down their answers, and get 10 additional seconds to follow in the quickest contestant's footsteps. The one who gets the answer right first nabs €100. This is done 8 times.
Round 2: Now, the contestants see the categories ahead of time and are allowed to pick a favorite. The gameplay changes very slightly, now they have to identify the connection by looking at a wall of 6 images, of which 3 are relevant. Every new catagory sees the 3 images replaced with new ones, which also means the other 3 images that may not have been relevant before, could be used in subsequent categories.
The money goes up to €200 for the first person who answers correctly, and €100 for anyone who managed to write it down in the 10 second window after the buzzer press. Double that if they selected the category as their favorite, which means there could be late charges once someone bags €400.
Once that gets done 8 more times, we say goodbye to the worst contestant. The 4th and 3rd placed folks get to fight for another day, while the highest scorer, and potentially the second highest, move(s) on to the...
Final: Stuff gets a little interesting here. Let's start with how it works on any first day of the cycle.
The first and second placed contesting ants make it in, and the money they gathered becomes the total jackpot. They see one big image (and a category) and all they have to do is buzz in and identify one image from an 8-image wall that connects with it. Much like round 2, old images could come into play later as the correct one gets replaced. First to 5 correct answers wins.
The episode winner is then actually required to stay for an additional episode- however they do still become the champion and get challenged by the next day's champion, who will add to the jackpot with their earnings. Once someone wins twice in a row, the money is there for the taking, or they can push their luck and keep going for more episodes. The season finale is an exception, whoever wins there just takes the money and runs no matter what.
Got all that? Great. I think this show deserved slightly better than the 35 episodes it got in the end. It's a little more stiff and awkward in many ways, but it's broader subject range compared to it's bigger counterpart, as well as the potential for the jackpot to get BIG, makes you wanna cheer on either finalist by the time they get above 5 grand or so. I personally think they should've made this something for the winter breaks to make for a proper counter to IWEAV's summer slot. Unfortunately, Dutch commercial TV execs are not a particularly bright light entertainment-wise. Let's look at some stats, though!
